Vietnam central city of Da Nang has been named one of the 10 environmentally sustainable cities of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), a local official announced on October 25.

Nguyen Dieu, director of the city's Department Natural Resources and Environment, said the cities were voted on by members of ASEAN based on a variety of criteria, including indexes of clean air, green land, clean water and local authorities' efforts in improving their environment.

An award ceremony recognizing the environmentally sustainable cities will take place at the 17th ASEAN summit, to be held in Indonesia on November 23, the official said.
