Ho Chi Minh City customs department said Wednesday they have confiscated several guns, knives and an armor shipped illegally into Vietnam by air.

In the first case, customs officers detected two metal air pistols yet to be assembled, one double-edged knife and one 25cm dagger in a consignment from the United States.

The guns and knives, hidden between clothes, toys and medicines, were sent as gifts to a receiver on Cong Quynh Street in District 1.

Another consignment, sent from United Kingdom to a receiver in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, contained a bullet-proof armor that would also protect the wearer from knife and taser attacks, the customs department said.

The purchase or use of all the confiscated weapons and support tools in the two consignments are banned in Vietnam, the customs department said.
