Cultural official arrested for gambling in central Vietnam

Police in the central province of Ha Tinh have arrested a local official in charge of supervising cultural and social activities  for gambling.

The police raided a house and arrested four alleged gamblers, including 40-year-old Tran Quoc Toan, chief of the Ha Tinh Town's Culture and Information Department.

Toan is also the chief of an inspection team assigned by Ha Tinh Town's government to inspect and supervise social and cultural activities and prevent "social ills."

The three other suspects arrested were Le Dinh Hoa, an officer of the Ha Tinh Province Farmers Association, Nguyen Van Manh, a doctor at the Ha Tinh Province Mental Clinic, and a man named Le Van Hoc.

Police seized one deck of cards and about VND10 million (US$480) in cash from the four men.

Investigations are ongoing.
