A crocodile bit off and almost severed the left hand of a 60-year-old female employee of the Dong Xanh Tourism Area in the Central Highlands Province of Gia Lai.
Doctors said they were unable to reconnect the hand of Luong Thi Bich Lien because it was seriously damaged.
Lien told VnExpress that the accident happened in the evening of July 15 when she was feeding the crocodiles leftover food collected from the restaurants in the tourism area.
She was standing behind the fence and bending over to throw food for the crocodiles when one of them suddenly bit her hand.
The terrified woman managed to pull her arm out of the big reptile's sharp teeth, but her hand was almost severed and only connected by a piece of skin.
She was rushed to the Gia Lai General Hospital.
Lien said she has been working at the area owned by the Gia Lai Tourism and Culture Joint Stock Company over the past year for a monthly salary of VND1.5 million (US$72) and her job was to feed the crocodiles.
The tourism area is raising more than 20 mature crocodiles in several fenced ponds of its "Crocodile Kingdom."
A company representative said they would provide compensation for Lien, but did not provide more details.
