Five people, including the driver, were rushed to hospital after their car crashed into the front gate of a house in Vinh City Tuesday afternoon, witnesses said.
They said the four-seat car had been running at a high rate of speed in the direction of Cua Lo Town when the driver apparently lost control and drove it in to the house in Nghi Duc Ward.
An 68-year-old man and his two grandchildren who live in the house were almost hit the car.
The man, Pham Dinh Giang, said he and the children had just passed the gate and were walking into the house when he heard a loud noise "like a bomb exploded" behind.
“We turned back and saw the car was there at the gate, totally damaged."
He said his family usually sat by the gate for some fresh air around that time of day. "Luckily we were not there today.”
Local residents helped take five injured people in the car to a local hospital.
Local police are investigating the cause of the accident, the Nghi Duc ward chief officer told Tuoi Tre last night.
