A construction worker in Da Nang was killed Friday when a crane nearly 50 meters long broke during a lift and fell onto him.
Nguyen Duc Thanh, 38, was hit when driving out of the construction site at around 10 a.m. His motorbike was crushed and he died on the spot.
"Part of the crane hit Thanh's head and he was already dead when we rushed over," a worker at the site said in a Friday report by news website VnExpress.
Many parts of the crane were broken and its head was thrown apart after the fall.
Eyewitness said the crane broke and fell when lifting a container of around ten tons. It was being used in the construction of a bridge across the Han River.
The crane, which was designed for up to 80-ton lifts, was repaired recently and other workers said fault repairs might have caused the accident.
Police are investigating the accident further.
