Police in Ho Chi Minh City Wednesday arrested two men for allegedly slashing at two cops with knives when they were fleeing after committing a couple of laptop robberies.
District 9 police said a group of four officers chased Le Van Tinh, 20, and Dang Van Y, 19, who were riding a motorbike, following tip-offs from local people that morning.
As the officers, also riding motorbikes, approached the robbers, Y, riding pillion, slashed at one of the officers, Dao Khanh Nam, injuring the latter's shoulder.
The officers then kicked the robbers' bike down and managed to overpower Tinh, the rider.
Meanwhile, the knife-wielding youth ran away although police fired two warning shots in the air.
According to the police, at one point, they surrounded Y, but he kept slashing at them and injured Dang Thanh Tam, another officer.
After that he hid under a drainage pipe, and was not arrested until a local security guard found him near a football yard wet and without a shirt later that same day.
Police said the man resisted the security guard by throwing stones at him, but he was still overpowered and handed over to the police.
The duo have reportedly confessed that they stole three laptops that morning in District 9 and kicked down two people who were trying to chase them on motorbikes.
Police are investigating.
