A woman was hospitalized in southern Vietnam Wednesday night after being shot accidentally by a police officer who was trying to stop a street fight.
Le Thi Ngoc Tuyet, 32, was hit in her belly as she passed the scene of a fight in Tien Giang Province, news website VnExpress reported.
According to the police report, a group of police officers were guarding the Tien Giang Radio and Television Station when they noticed young men chasing each other with knives on the street.
One of them fired a warning shot in the air to stop the fight, but the fighters then turned to attack him, forcing him to fire again. The second shot hit the woman.
The identity of the policeman who fired the shot has not been revealed.
Tuyet has had a surgery to remove the bullet and her condition is stable, local authorities said.
