A police officer was stabbed to death at a coffee shop in Ho Chi Minh City Tuesday night.
Phung Minh Thang, 34-year-old sub-lieutenant with the traffic police department from Binh Phuoc Province, was killed by a friend from high school who was sitting with him at Thuy Truc Café on Chu Van An Street, the arrested accomplice told the police.
The accomplice said Thang and the murderer, whose name was not released, were having arguments over a girl.
Eyewitnesses said the accomplice had waited on a motorbike outside the shop to help the murderer escape.
Thang had received two stab wounds to his chests including a fatal one to his heart.
He collapsed at a corner hidden from view, when the shop was crowded and died at the entrance to the shop, investigators found.
Thang was a first year student at the University of People's Police in HCMC.
Police are looking for the murderer.
