Authorities in the southern province of Binh Duong Monday suspended construction of Lotte Mart's building to assess quality after part of the building collapsed the previous day.

The collapse of the South Korean supermarket's building in Thuan An Town occurred at around 8 a.m.

According to online newspaper VnExpress, a 600-square-meter portion of the floor in the third story collapsed, but luckily no workers were working on the second story.

However, the collapsed concrete and iron poles fell into the first storey, injuring two workers named Ho Van Luc, 22, and Nguyen Van Khanh, 26, of Yes Total Engineering Company.

The US$30-million building is expected to have a total area of more than 21,300 square meters, of which 17,400 square meters are under construction, online news website Dat Viet reported.

After the accident the construction site has been cordoned off, and the media has not been allowed in.

Police were sent to the site, but no official statement has been made yet.

The province Department of Construction and inspectors from the Ministry of Construction said Monday they would review the construction to decide what to do next.
