A company in southern Vietnam has been ordered to re-export over 172 tons of plastic waste it bought from Germany after the shipment was found not to meet Vietnamese regulations.

T&T Production, Trade and Services Joint-stock Company was also fined VND20 million (US$1,054) for importing used bottles without cutting them into parts and removing residues as regulated, Han Anh Vu, head of the Customs Department of Binh Duong Province, said.

The company, headquartered in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho, declared that the waste, costing nearly $26,000, was imported for recycling, but customs found that the wastes were mixed, wet and rotten, and possibly unusable.
