The southern coastal province of Ba Ria Vung Tau has fined 43 Chinese workers a total of nearly VND500 million (US$26,378) for working in Vietnam without permits.

Forty of the workers who worked on four Belizean-owned ships entered Vietnam with tourist visas, while three others carried expired work visas, according to the provincial coast guards.

The Chinese were previously detected when coast guards inspected the ships. The ships had been hired by Singaporean-owned Santarli Company to exploit sand in the provincial Dat Do District.
