Vietnamese police arrested a Chinese woman for carrying more than two kilograms of methamphetamine at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday.
After getting off a plane, Li Chunying, 26, was detained when customs officers at the airport checked her luggage because they found her suspicious.
They found 2.2 kilograms of meth wrapped in a plastic bag and cleverly hidden in her suitcase.
It is not revealed from where Li flew to HCMC.
Li was handed over to local anti-narcotics police for investigation.
Police said Li had transited at a number of countries before flying to HCMC, so she may be part of a transnational drug smuggling ring.
Tan Son Nhat Airport authorities said nine seizures regarding the illicit transport of a total of around 20 kilograms in drugs had been made at the airport this year.
Vietnam has some of the world's toughest drug laws. According to its Penal Code, those convicted of smuggling 100 grams of heroin or cocaine or 300 grams of other drugs can be sentenced to death.
