A court in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday sentenced a Chinese man to five years in jail and his wife two years for selling fake Viagra, sex toys and other aphrodisiacs, which are banned in Vietnam.
Yan Jian Feng, 46, and his wife Lu Thuc Hy were charged of “illegally trading and storing banned products.”
They bought large amount of the products from China to sell in the city from November 2013 until police busted their business in May last year.
Police have seized 1,700 tablets of fake Viagra and other aphrodisiacs, and nearly 600 sex toys of different kinds.
The couple profited VND50 million (US$2,300) from the business, police found.
The wife received a more lenient sentence as she did not know that the Viagra was fake.
Vietnam allows the import and trade of Viagra although it does not provide price support.
But trading sex toys is still illegal in the country.
