A video clip showing some Chinese tourists acting rudely to a Vietnamese street vendor in Da Nang has sparked public outrage.
Nguyen Duy Khoai, a musician in Da Nang, posted the clip on the internet Monday saying the incident happened in front of his house on Phan Chau Trinh Street at around 8:20 a.m. that day.
It shows a group of Chinese tourists stopping a banana vendor on the street and plucking some fruits before even asking for the price.
They then rudely throw the peels back into the vendor’s bamboo basket.
When the woman tells them the bananas cost VND40,000, one of the Chinese pulls out yuan notes, but the woman refuses to accept them.
The two argue for a while. The tourists then bargain with the vendor, saying they will only pay VND35,000.
When they give the vendor VND50,000 and she returns VND10,000, they refuse to accept it, saying she has to give them another VND5,000. They then try to prevent the vendor from leaving, one pulls her hat while another tries to pluck a banana from her basket
Passers-by come up to talk with them.
After the clip went viral, many people expressed anger at the tourists’ rude and uncultured behavior.
The Da Nang police said they are investigating.
