Authorities in the central province of Quang Ngai Monday proposed that related agencies ask China to release three local fishing boats that its forces have taken into custody since the beginning of this month.
In a report to the agencies on Monday, Nguyen Duy Trinh, vice chairman of Pho Thanh Commune, said on July 6 Chinese forces arrested four fishing boats with 19 fishermen on board when the latter were fishing in the waters of Vietnam's Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago.
Two days later China released two of the boats along with all the abducted fishermen.
Earlier on July 2, Chinese forces also detained two other fishing boats and 11 fishermen as the latter were en route to China's Hainan Island to seek treatment for Vo Ngoc Thach, 43, who had suffered a brain trauma in an onboard accident.
On July 4, the Chinese released one of the two boats together with the fishermen.
It is unknown if the Chinese forces provided treatment for Thach or not.
