Customs authorities in a Vietnamese province fined a Chinese-owned water treatment producer VND1.2 billion (US$57,400) for putting fake made-in-Vietnam labels on their products for exporting to the US.

Tianhua Vietnam SPC Industries based in Nhon Trach Industrial Zone in Dong Nai Province was caught late last year replacing "made in China" labels on a batch of disinfectants with labels claiming Vietnamese origin to enable their export.

Investigations revealed that the company has been doing this since 2006.
