A Chinese man was caught carrying 2.4 kilograms of heroin as he attempted to cross into China from Vietnam's northern province of Quang Ninh Monday.

According to provincial border guards, Chen Jun Giang, 29, a native of Fujian province, was found hiding the drugs in plastic bags tied to his legs under his pants.

Police are currently investigating the case.

Vietnam has some of the world's toughest drug laws. Those convicted of smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin are eligible for the death sentence.
