A Chinese man was found illegally carrying US$40,000 in cash when he was about to take a flight to China from the Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Tuesday.
According to the airport's customs officials, Guo Zhi, 27, had a total of $45,000 in his luggage, but could not present a permit to carry the cash given by the State Bank of Vietnam.
The officials allowed the man to take $5,000 and confiscated $40,000 because Vietnamese laws do not allow an individual to carry more than $5,000 in cash while leaving the country.
The case is being handled by the HCMC Customs Department.
