Flight attendants on board a Vietnam Airlines flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Hong Kong found a Chinese passenger stealing US$710 from another passenger early this week.
It was the fifth in-flight theft committed by Chinese passengers that Vietnam Airlines have reported this year, Nguoi Lao Dong (Laborer) newspaper reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, during the flight on Monday, cabin attendants noticed a Chinese passenger who kept changing seat and searching overhead luggage bins.
They later caught him red-handed stealing the money of a European passenger.
Informed by the flight crew, local authorities in Hong Kong apprehended the Chinese man for investigation after the plane landed.
According to Vietnam Airlines, since 2012 it has set up an anti-theft program, following Hong Kong police’s warning about in-flight thefts and its passengers’ reports of losses from their luggage.
