Police in Lang Son Province in northern Vietnam have arrested a Chinese for smuggling two kilograms of methamphetamine into Vietnam for selling here.
The 35-year-old, who is known only by his surname, Lin, was arrested while crossing the border last week.
He said he had bought the drug in Guangxi for around US$23,400 and planned to sell it to dealers and users in Vietnam.
The investigation is continuing.
Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those convicted of smuggling more than 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kilograms of methamphetamine face the death penalty.
The production or sale of 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal narcotics is also punishable by death.
