The four-year-old girl who was critically injured in the explosion of a motorbike in the northern province of Bac Ninh died Tuesday, Dan Tri quoted the Hanoi-based National Institute of Burns as saying.

Nguyen Khanh Van succumbed to multiple critical injuries after being treated for one week at the institute, the news source said, adding that previously she received treatment at the Hanoi-based Viet Duc Hospital.

The child was hospitalized on December 1 with injuries caused in the explosion of a Super Dream on which her mother Nguyen Thi Quynh, 27, drove her to school that day.

The accident occurred right after the mother and the daughter left their home. Quynh, who was one month pregnant, died very soon later.

Police are still investigating the cause. Their initial investigations found no explosives in the accident, while the Honda motorbike that was bought in April showed no abnormal signs during previous maintenance.
