Authorities in the Central Highlands resort town of Da Lat on Sunday installed 16 security cameras at a night market to protect tourists from being robbed, Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported.

The cameras, installed along both sides of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street in front of the Da Lat Market, operate well at night, they said.

They are capable of capturing close-up images of suspects who merge into the crowd to pick tourists' pockets or otherwise steal from them, according to the Hiep Thanh Binh Company, which manages the market.

The market is among Da Lat's main nighttime attractions, with more than 120 kiosks open from 5 p.m. until 3 a.m.

On average, upwards of 4,000 people visit the market on weekend evenings.
