One person was killed and seven others injured when a hotel under construction collapsed in the central province of Ha Tinh Sunday.

According to witnesses, some 14 workers were working when part of the second floor of Sailing Tower Hotel collapsed.

Rescuers, however, found just eight people buried in the rubble, and one of them died due to critical injuries.

At 8 p.m., the search for more victims ended without so sign of any other victim, said Le Dinh Son, vice chairman of Ha Tinh's People's Committee

The seven-floor building is invested in by the Hai Linh Joint-stock Company as a four-star hotel.

A report in Lao Dong newspaper Monday said heavy rains had weakened the framework of the building.

The newspaper also said that on September 27, the local construction department's inspectors had found the construction failing to comply with the project's design and license.

The inspectors has asked that work on the site be suspended, but the investor ignored the order.

An investigation has been launched into the accident.
