A policeman in central Vietnam has been suspended pending an investigation into whether he beat a local who was sent to the hospital.
Truong Van Loc, head of a commune police unit in Thua Thien-Hue Province, was suspended after a local man, Tran Dua, in a letter accused Loc of severely injuring him, the local government said Saturday.
Dua said in his letter that he was summoned to the commune police unit on November 2, where he was beaten by Loc.
The man was let go that evening, but he vomited blood and fell unconscious about 50 meters from the police office.
Doctors said Dua had multiple injuries to his head and chest.
Loc told Tuoi Tre that his unit summoned Dua because he was involved in a fight, and said he knows nothing about Dua being hospitalized.
Police are investigating the matter.
