Four people died and another five were critically injured when a 12-seat car collided with a refrigerated truck in the central province of Quang Ngai on Thursday.

Initial reports showed that the car was carrying eight people, including seven athletes and officials from the central province of Phu Yen, to Quang Nam province to compete at the national sports festival.

A refrigerated truck running in the opposite direction crashed head on into the car along the National Way No.1A in Quang Ngai's Duc Pho District.

Pham Van Ha, the car's driver, and three passengers died on the spot, while four others and the truck driver were rushed to a local hospital.
