Police in Hung Yen Province near Hanoi on Saturday arrested the driver of a BMW who crashed into a traffic police car, seriously injuring an officer, after hitting a motorbike on a national highway, news website VnExpress reported.
Bui Van Sang, 34, of Hanoi was found drunken at the time he was arrested.
At around 9 p.m. on Saturday, Sang reportedly drove the BMW X5 on National Highway 39 through Hung Yen’s Kim Dong District and crashed into the motorbike driven by Do Duc Viet, 23, a Hung Yen native.
Viet was injured and rushed to hospital.
The BMW was slightly damaged after the crash. Sang sped up to flee the scene.
Traffic police officers in charge of National Highway 39 assigned three officers to a crossroad to catch Sang.
When Sang arrived at the crossroad, the officers signaled him to stop, but he ignored the request. He crashed the BMW into the police car parked on the roadside.
The car was thrown around 20 meters to fall into a roadside field.
An officer named Toan, who was sitting near the car, was hit and seriously injured.
The BMW overturned following the crash. Sang was brought out of the car with minor injuries.
Investigations are ongoing.
