An official in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho has been ordered to report on why he mentioned his designation on his son's wedding invitation cards.
Nguyen Hung Dung, deputy head of the Can Tho City Anti-Corruption Committee, had his title printed on the front side of the invitation cards for a wedding ceremony on September 5.
After around 100 cards were sent, Nguyen Thanh Son, chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee and also chief of the committee, called Dung to give a warning.
Dung explained that he was not home when the cards were made, and that his family had unwittingly included his name in the cards.
He said his family did not want those who would receive the cards to confuse Dung with other people since there are many people with the same name in town.
He admitted the act was "totally wrong."
Dung has been ordered to report to inspectors of Can Tho City's Party unit on the issue.
The case has become a major subject for discussion among Can Tho residents over the last week.
A company director told the VnExpress online newspaper he was not "very close" to Dung's family, but he decided to go to the wedding after seeing the "big title" on the invitation card.
