Police in the Mekong Delta have arrested four of five people who allegedly opened fire on police in the Mekong Delta on Monday night.

According to Dan Tri, the men were attempting to cross into Cambodia in a taxi and were heavily armed.

Police claim that the five men hired a seven-seat car to take them from Ho Chi Minh City to Long An. When they arrived, they asked the driver to head toward the Moc Hoa border crossing.

The driver noticed that his customers were carrying guns so when he saw police on patrol in Long An, he ran from the car and cried out for help.

The customers seized the taxi and drove towards to the border, where they saw more police.

They then turned the vehicle around and shot at the provincial cops as they attempted an escape.

Police caught four of them on Tuesday. All are HCMC residents.

They were detained for investigation. The fifth suspect remains at large.
