A long distance bus traveling through the southern province of Bac Lieu on Saturday night rammed its upper deck into an overpass in Vinh Loi ward, sending dozens of passengers hurtling onto the surface of the road.

Twenty-six passengers on the bus were rushed to the province's general hospital, doctors told Thanh Nien News on Sunday afternoon.

Neural surgeons performed emergency operations on Cao Nhu Y, 14, Tran Ngoc Tram, 33, and Le Van Quoc, 42.

Tram was the only one to show signs of recovery. The other two remain in comas, doctors said.

At the scene of the accident, the 41-passenger coach remained wedged under the flyover--its upper deck entirely crushed under the 2.6 meter bridge beam.

Vinh Loi police said they notified the authorities about the unsafe height of the flyover, but no action was taken to fix the problem.
