A burglar killed a boy and severely injured his mother and brother after breaking into a house in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang, and made away with 150 gm of gold Tuesday.
According to the police, the thief broke into the house of Nguyen Thi Phi, 32, in Ganh Dau Commune, Phu Quoc District, at around 2 a.m. when she and her sons Nguyen Viet Cuong, 10, and Nguyen Chi Dai, 7, were sleeping.
Her husband was away on a fishing trip, they said.
After being discovered, the thief stabbed the three and they passed out. Phi regained consciousness at around 5 a.m. and called her sister-in-law, who then called the police.
The three were rushed to hospital but Cuong was died on arrival.
Phi and Dai are being treated for serious injuries.
The police said the thief took away gold jewelry.
They are investigating.
