Police in Ho Chi Minh City's Thu Duc District Tuesday arrested two babysitters working for an unlicensed private nursery after a video clip showing them ill-treating children went viral.

They had summoned its owner, Le Thi Dong Phuong, 31, and Nguyen Le Thien Ly, 19, for questioning after neighbors shot the video and posted it online.

It shows the two being violent with several children to force them to eat and drink. They viciously slap and hit, grab and shake, and pinch noses to make the little ones eat faster.

Ly lifts up a baby girl and threatens to dunk her into a large water drum despite her pitiful cries for eating too slowly for her liking.

Phuong and Ly confessed to abusing the children, police said.

They faces criminal charges, they added.

The nursery has 22 children for whom their parents pay VND1-1.2 million (US$47-57) a month.

Phuong had been a daycare assistant for seven years before opening the nursery last October.

Even as her application for a license was being considered, she began to take in children.

On November 15 authorities found this out and ordered her to close.

On December 6, after she failed to close down, they fined her VND750,000 and again ordered its closure.

On December 13, after the video saga, the nursery was finally closed down.
