Authorities are investigating what appears to be the suicide of a British man who was found hanging in his house in the resort town of Hoi An in central Vietnam.
Colonel Nguyen Duc Dung of Quang Nam Province told the media on Sunday that the man was identified as Nicholas Robert Shirra, 51.
According to Dung, at 1.05 a.m. Sunday Shirra's family called local police to report that he appeared to have hung himself in their house in Cam Thanh Commune.
Colonel Dung said Shirra had lived in Cam Thanh Commune with his Vietnamese wife since 2010.
The police is "working with the local foreign affairs department and government... to investigate and determine the cause and manner of death," Dung said.
