Mystery surrounds the death of 33-year-old British writer and film producer whose body was found on Monday, reportedly outside a medical center in Ho Chi Minh City.

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office's spokesperson confirmed the death of Joseph Lang in an email to Thanh Nien News on Saturday.

"We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time," the spokesperson said.

The Guardian newspaper had reported Friday that his family was waiting for the results of an autopsy.

But the report did not name the medical center outside which Lang's body was reportedly found. Thanh Nien News's attempts to gather more information about  Lang's death were unsuccessful.

lt is also not clear if Lang's body is still in Vietnam or has been repatriated to the UK. The FCO was not immediately available for comments on who would or has conducted the autopsy.

Lang, whose credits included many films that earned critics' appreciation, like the 2008 film Soi Cowboy, had been in Vietnam for four months teaching English, according to the report.
