Five guards at a bar in southern Vietnam were detained Wednesday for killing a man during a fight early Tuesday morning.

The five guards at BB bar in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province, between 18 and 26 years of age, stabbed and beat Pham Duy Huan, 23, at around 1 a.m. when Huan tried to stop them from fighting with another customer.

Huan died on the way to hospital while four others who intervened in the clash also suffered injuries, including brain injuries, police said.

The guard who did the stabbing has been identified as Ngo Van Duc, 26, who has only worked at the bar several days, according to police.

When Huan fell, other guards -- including Nguyen Tan Quy, Nguyen Ngoc Chau, Nguyen Duy Phuong and Phan Thanh Hai --beat him continuously with bamboo canes around one meter long.

Another fight occured at the bar early last month in which guards beat a 21 year old, causing brain injuries.
