Nearly 1,000 tons of fertilizers were discharged into waters off the central resort town of Nha Trang after a boat from Dong Nai Province slammed into a reef during its northbound journey, VnExpress said Tuesday.
The cargo ship Truong Giang 54 was carrying 12 tons of diesel oil and 2,000 tons of fertilizers to Hai Phong.
Nha Trang maritime authorities received May Day signals from the boat on December 29, but their tower boats couldn't manage to bring the boat to shore, so they chose to transfer the cargo to rescue boats.
Due to rough waters, only fishing boats have approached the Truong Giang 54.
As of late Sunday, 400 tons of fertilizers and 11 tons of oil have been transferred to rescue boats.
Efforts are on to save the cargo.
