Twenty five people, including 17 foreigners, were brought to safety after a tour boat caught fire in Ha Long Bay at noon today.
The tour boat QN-4239 of Hoa Phuong Do Company, which departed from Cat Ba Island, Hai Phong, earlier in the morning, was near Reu Islet in Ha Long Bay when its crew discovered a fire in the upper deck. The flames quickly engulfed the boat.
Local authorities were called, who mobilized boats and ships operating nearby to rush to the scene.
All people on board the tour boat, including 19 tourists, a tourist guide and five crew members, were rescued.
Nguyen Duc Long, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh Province, instructed that responsible agencies assist the tourists and investigate the incident.
He has also suspended Hoa Phuong Do's fleet of tour boats pending the investigation.
