The Ministry of Public Security has put a blogger under investigation for allegedly slandering the family of a high-ranking official, a source told Thanh Nien.
Le Nguyen Huong Tra was arrested on October 23 and will be kept in custody for two months while she is under investigation, according to the ministry's latest decision.
The popular blogger was accused of "taking advantage of democratic freedom to violate the state's benefits; legal rights and benefits of organizations and citizens."
According to news website VnExpress, Tra, who blogged under the nickname Co gai do long, published an entry about an official's family based on an anonymous letter.
She raised questions about whether or not beauty queens and artists were "protected" because they were his son's lovers.
In a report published Monday, Tuoi Tre quoted Le Hong Anh, minister of Public Security, as saying that the blog entry dated early last month was about the family of Nguyen Khanh Toan, Deputy Minister of Public Security.
Toan refused to comment on the entry, and said he would let related agencies deal with the case in accordance with the law, Tuoi Tre said.
In the meantime, Tra's husband Nguyen Luong Dung and her mother sent a letter of apology to Toan on Sunday, asking for forgiveness.
So far they are yet to receive a reply, according to the news source.
