Police in the southern city of Bien Hoa Wednesday arrested 10 men for alleged involvement in an armed brawl between more than 80 people in front of a bar 10 days earlier.
Authorities also shut down MTM bar in downtown Bien Hoa for nine months following the incident on July 27.
A group of around 80 men armed with machetes, knives and iron bars arrived on motorbikes at MTM bar on Vo Thi Sau Street, police said.
The police suspected that they were about to attack a rival gang in the bar.
As they tried to enter the bar, security guards managed to close its doors. The raiders tried to break down the doors for several minutes before leaving.
News website VnExpress quoted a witness as saying, "They were shouting 'Hack them all!’
“People outside ran for their lives. It was like in a mafia movie."
The midnight incident was shot on camera and posted on YouTube by several people.
Colonel Tran Tien Dat, the Bien Hoa police chief, said the incident was sparked by a fight between two groups of men Monday.
He said the police had seized four machetes left behind.
Miraculously, it seems, no one was injured in the brawl.
The popular MTM bar has been fined often in the past, including for allowing drug use inside.
The investigation is continuing.
