Police in the south- central province of Khanh Hoaarrested a Belgian man last Thursday on an oustanding international sex abuse warrant issued in 2006.
Pelsender Didier, 75, was arrested at a hotel in Nha Trang after local police and the Ministry of Public Security discovered that he had been visiting the resort town -- as well as several other destinations in Vietnam -- regularly.
He is wanted for the alleged sexual abuse of his two adopted daughters. He is accused of abusing the elder of the two from the time she was eight until she was twenty and the younger one for the period between her eight and 15 bithdays.
Belgium issued the international warrant against Didier in January 2006.
Didier entered Vietnam through Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City in late 2007 with a fake passport that said he was Luis Belttran Gonzalez from Venezuela.
He told the police he had frequented the province's resort town Nha Trang, as well as destinatinos in the nearby Binh Thuan Province, Dong Nai Province, which neighbors Ho Chi Minh City, and Cambodia.
He admitted to regularly having sex with young Vietnamese women.
Khanh Hoa police are working with local Interpol officers to investigate Didier's activities in Vietnam.
