Police in the central resort town of Nha Trang are investigating a case in which a Belgian man allegedly attacked two security guards at the apartment where he resides.

Initial investigations found that the attack, which left both guards needing several stitches on their head and face, was provoked by anger.

The 38-year-old Belgian, identified only as David, returned to the building where his family rents an apartment at around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

One guard, Nguyen Van Binh, 59, opened the gate and another Nguyen Van Tam, 57, proceeded to open the door to the parking lot so that David could park his vehicle.

David then punched Tam in the head, knocking him unconscious. He then punched Binh in the eye as the second security guard tried to diffuse the situation.

David's family claim Tam addressed David in a rude manner, angering him. The two guards, however, said they did nothing of the sort and have never had a personal problem with David.

The guards said they plan to lodge an official complaint with local authorities.

David remains free. His family gave the guards an unspecified sum of money for the medical treatment they required.
