A water tank fell off the roof of a house during strong winds in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday afternoon, killing an 8-month-old baby sleeping in the house next door.
The baby was sleeping next to her mother when the steel tank fell down on them from their neighbor's four-story house in Thu Duc District.
The baby was killed immediately while the 34-year-old mother had her belly and legs stuck under the tank.
Locals had to use shovels to lift the tank and rescue her, a migrant worker from central Vietnam. They then rushed her to hospital.
They said the tank, which weighs around 100 kilograms when empty, fell down from the roof once before but no one was hurt that time.
The thunderstorm on Friday also blew away several billboards in the district and the roofs of some houses in the nearby Binh Thanh District.
Trees fell and injured four motorbike riders in the city downtown and damaged a car parked outside the Notre Dame Cathedral.
