Australia will support Vietnam with about US$100 million in funding until June next year for various development projects.

An Australian embassy press release said Thursday (May 20) that part of the support of around 119.8 million Australian dollar will go towards building major traffic lines, especially in the Mekong Delta region, supplying clean water and building toilets in rural areas, improving healthcare facilities and helping Vietnam better integrate into the World Trade Organization.

The funds are also expected to help Vietnam deal with HIV/AIDS, drugs smuggling and human trafficking, cross-border crime and problems relating to corruption and gender equality, the release said.

Australia is cooperating with Vietnam government and local authorities to help residents prepare for natural disasters as also cope with their aftermath, the press release said.
