Antiques found smuggled to China worth over $142,000

Antiques found being smuggled to China in October was estimated to be worth about VND3 billion (US$142,800), authorities in the northern province of Quang Ninh announced on November 2.

According to the checks conducted by local related agencies in cooperation with antique examiners from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, 197 antiques, including cooper censers and hammers, were dated between the first and 19th centuries.

They were found when Pham Thi Hang, 33, from Mong Cai Town, attempted to bring them in cartons through the Ka Long border gate.

The case is now under investigation.
