Two days later, Truong's father, Vo Van Bao, took him to the local police station where he admitted to murdering Ngoc.
Truong confessed that he had attempted to steal her money for his games, after hearing that Ngoc had saved much money from selling lottery tickets as well as rumors that she had sold some land plot for big money.
He prepared an iron tube and a knife and intended to sneak into her house. However, he stabbed the woman on being detected, and ran away without stealing her property.
Investigators said that an autopsy found Ngoc had died of a wound to her heart. Her property remained intact, they said.
According to Bao, Truong used to be a good student at secondary school before becoming addicted to online games in Grade 9.
