The Asian Development Bank has agreed to lend Vietnam US$212 million to improve its water pipeline system to provide clean water to more than three million people.

It is the second tranche of a $1-billion loan it approved in 2011 to enable around 500,000 poor households in Binh Duong, Dak Lak, Quang Tri, and Thua Thien-Hue Provinces, and the cities of Da Nang and Hai Phong to get water.

The Vietnamese government has ordered water-supply companies to halve water lost to leaks and other inefficiencies to 15 percent by 2025.
