Active mortar shells unearthed in central Vietnam

An official in the central province of Phu Yen on Monday said local military are in possession of 12 active mortar shells discovered on Sunday.

 

The 81-mm shells, left behing after the Vietnam War, were discovered in a residential area at the foot of the Nhan Mountain in Tuy Hoa Town, said Nguyen Ngoc Duc, chief of Tuy Hoa Town's Military Command.

 

It is expected that the shells, which have a high content of explosives and can cause heavy casualties, would be destroyed Tuesday, Duc said.
