Oil carrying fishing vessel catches fire off southern coast
It took three hours for firefighters in the southern Vung Tau beach town to extinguish the blaze on a fishing boat that was carrying 15,000 liters of oil on Wednesday.

Winds stoked the fire and a local fisherman had to use his own boat to tow the burning boat far away from oil tubs along the Dinh river at the time.

The Vung Tau Paint and Equipment Joint Stock Co. later had the boat taken to Military Zone 7 port where it was sprayed with water for three hours, the newswire Vnexpress said Thursday.

Boat owner Tran Van Co from the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang said a crew member named Tinh brought an electric bulb into the oil cellar to check the oil and the bulb suddenly exploded, sparking the fire. Tinh received burns to his leg.

Co said the fire damaged almost the entire boat, causing a loss of several billion dongs.

Earlier on Tuesday, a boat carrying 7,700 tons of coal from Indonesia to Thuan Hai Company in Ho Chi Minh City had also caught fire off Vung Tau coast..
