Hanoi offers rewards for informers of waste-dumping
Citizens in Hanoi who report cases of illegal waste-dumping to authorities are now eligible to receive cash rewards, according to a new incentive program which came into effect Monday.

If the witness can provide the time, place, license plate number and photo of the violator to inspectors from the Hanoi Department of Transport, they will be rewarded with VND500,000 (US$30.3).

In the witness is able to detain the violator and hand them over to officials, they will receive a reward of VND1 million ($60.5).

Witnesses can contact the department’s inspectors through phone numbers including (+844) 976 0611, 821 7922, 0913 606 436, 0903 225 747, 0913 590 633, 0913 217 021 and 0913 211 977. Since January, the department has handled 1,294 violating cases of dumping construction debris and other wastes along roadways in Hanoi and fines have totaled nearly VND197 million ($11,930).
