The ministry said it needs over US$12 million to design the project and pay land clearance compensation required to expand the Quan Chanh Bo Channel in Tra Vinh Province.
The project, which will make the channel both deeper and wider, aims to allow 10,000-20,000 ton ships to travel the Hau River, according to a ministry statement issued Monday.
The ministry has also asked the Vietnam Maritime Administration to join the Tra Vinh provincial government in organizing timely site clearance to begin the project this year.
Canadian consulting company SNC-Lavalin and Vietnam’s Portcoast Consultant Corporation will cooperate to implement the project.
